Project Overview
A trap design for the most important and successful predator ever recorded in te 21st century: lionfish.
Brief
Development and implementation of a product and service or technology-based strategy that generates a social, ecological and economic impact related to the maritime ecosystem of Veracruz. With the objective of promoting fishing, recycling of materials, protection of endangered animals, improving the marine ecosystem or generating a circular economy.
Under the sea

“The cockroach of the sea” the lionfish is considered the top predator of the Caribbean, this species consumes corals, rocks, fish and microorganisms causing an imbalance in marine ecosystems.

Function

The idea consists of a trap with a folding mechanism made of resistant and inexpensive materials. It has the ability to decrease water resistance due to its shape based on a hyperboloid.

Use

As the trap is constructed with PVC pipes, the user will be able to throw the trap and keep it optimally within reach, regardless of the water current. On the other hand, the lionfish will be attracted to the structure and will be easy to catch.
